10.	Evelyn Gore Jones
March 29, 1923 – June 11, 2010

     Empire – Evelyn Gore Jones, age 87, 
passed into the arms of God, Friday, 
June 11, 2010, in the Bolingreen Health 
and Rehabilitation Center in Macon, 
after an extended illness. Funeral 
services will be held Monday at 4:00 
P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will 
be private in Bowers Cemetery.
     Evelyn was born March 29, 1923 to 
Lillian McAlister and E.L. Gore Sr. Most 
of her life was spent in Empire as a 
devoted mother and wife. She worked many 
years at Bryant Nursing Home in Cochran 
and then at the Bleckley County Hospital 
until her retirement. She enjoyed 
traveling through the United States and 
made many trips with friends and family. 
She loved her church and worshiping with 
her neighbors and friends in Empire. She 
was a member of New Hope Freewill 
Baptist Church in Empire.
     In addition to her parents, Evelyn 
was preceded in death by her husband, 
John K. Jones, a sister, Martha Sue 
Purvis, brothers E.L. Gore Jr., Wesley 
Gore, and Ralph Gore.
     Evelyn is survived by her children 
Sharon Jones of Macon and Cortis Jones 
of Elko; brothers, William M. (Joann) 
Gore of Thomaston and Reggie Gore of New 
Jersey. She was grandma to LaDonna (Sam) 
Dykes of Cochran and Cynthia (Doug) 
Branham of Empire. She also leaves great 
grandsons Kyle Dykes, Tyler Dykes, Doug 
Branham III, James Branham and Michael 
Branham, great-great granddaughters 
Susanne Branham and Mackenzie Dykes.
The family is at 678 Centenary Road and 
will greet friends one hour before the 
service Monday
.
