J. Lamb, an Old and Well Known Citizen of Cochran, is Dead Cochran, Ga., June 25. - Dr. A. J. Lamb, an old and well known citizen of this place, was stricken down on the street this afternoon with paralysis and died shortly after he was removed to his home. Dr. Lamb was about 60 years of age and unmarried. He possessed a strong and vigorous intellect and was in many respects a remarkable man. He served through the entire late war, and it is said of him that none braver fought under the flag of the Confederacy. Additional Comments: Andrew Jackson Lamb, b. 1835, d. 25 Jun 1898, Cochran, Bleckley, Ga., buried Cedar Hill Cemetery, Cochran, Bleckley, Ga. Service record: private April 25, 1861. 4th Ga Inf Rgmt, Co C, Transferred to serve as landsman on Steamer Virginia February 10, 1862. Paid for said service February 418, 1862. Served in C. S. Navy at Charleston, Va. and Drewry's Bluff, Va. in 1864. No later record. "History of the Doles-Cook Brigade" (1903) says "Surgeon of Company, April 25, 1861, served through the war, died since the surrender." Either or both might be correct.
