BORING Rev. Jesse Boring, D. D. and aged and honored Methodist minister, departed this life near Quitman, Ga., one day last week. Aged 83 years. He entered the ministry in 1826, and for more than half a century was one of the most active workers for the promotion of Methodism. Several years ago he was placed on the superannuated list, but he continued to labor as best he could to the very last for the Church he loved so well. In his prime the Doctor was famous as one of the most eloquent preachers of his day and time. There are thousands of people in Georgia who well remember how he swayed the multitudes _________ ______ ________ _______ power. He was a contemporary of Bishop Andrew, Bishop Capers, Bishop Bascom and Doctor Lovick Pierce, the men who did so much to lay the foundations of the strength of the Methodist Church in the South. Dr. Boring was an earnest, faithful and gifted men, and after a long and useful life he “folds the drapery of his couch about him and lays down to pleasant dreams.” After life’s fitful fever ad when the care and toil of this world is over this grand “old soldier of the cross” rest well.
