Mrs. McKee made her home at 512 North Highland Avenue where she raised a flourishing "kitchen" garden, chickens, and beautiful flowers. Many years ago when Frank Underwood had the foundry where the South Georgia railroad makes an end of Foundry Street, Mrs. McKee asked Mr. Underwood to make her a pecan cracking machine. This unique and practical invention was installed on a table in the garage behind the chicken house and there from October to January, and sometimes later than that, Mrs. McKee cracked pecans, shelling them out on her kitchen table, for favorite customers. RESISTING ALL pleading of her son and grandson to move to more comfortable and less arduous quarters, Mrs. McKee stayed on in the home her husband, Samuel M. McKee had made for her.
