(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net December 20, 2012, 12:42 pm The Quitman Free Press Nov 1932 YOUNG WOMAN DIES SUDDENLY The Sudden death of Miss Eva Nettie McKee Monday afternoon about 4:30 was a severe shock to her many friends and associates. She was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McKee who lived on East Highland Road and is survived by her parents and one brother, T. K. McKee of Valdosta. Mrs. McKee was born in Moultrie Dec. 4, 1901. The family has lived here a number of years and Miss McKee was well known in business circles and held responsible positions with firms here. In recent years, Miss McKee had suffered ill health and was highly nervous. Monday afternoon, she took a dose of medicine and walked into her mother's room to tell her she had done this. Death ensued very shortly afterward. Miss McKee was very active member of the Baptist church here. She was a teacher in the sunday school, having a large class of young girls who were devoted to her. She influenced them a great deal and worked very ernestly with them. She was especially popular with the young children and took up much time with them. She attended every church service regularly and always had a group of her Sunday school pupils sitting with her. She also took a very active interest in the B. Y. P. U. and her work in the church will be greatly missed. Miss McKee was highly respected and admired for her quite ways and her unassuming manners. Her passing is mourned by hosts of friends in Quitman and throughout the county. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock from the McKee residence and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. W. Henderson who spoke on her life of service and devotion to her family and friends. A quartet composed of Mrs. C. W. Henderson, Mrs. L. S. Price, Miss Freddie Wade, and Mrs. Bob Millmor sang two of Miss McKee's favorite songs, "Old Rugged Cross" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul". The services were largely attended and many beautiful floral offerings attested the high esteem in which she was held. Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Henry Harden, Mr. A. C. Deen, Mr. W. M. Knight, Mr. W. M. English, Mr. W. A. May, Mr. G. A. Glenton. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery. Additional Comments: Nettie was born to Samuel M. McKee and Lula E. Carroll/Carrell McKee.
