P. McDonald, aged forty-three years, leaving a wife and five children. Mr. McDonald was born in Moore county, N. C., August 9th, 1823. He was a member of the Baptist Church for many years past; represented Berrien county in 1857 and 1858 in the State Legislature; served as Clerk of the Superior Court till 1863; when he was elected to the State Senate; which position he held till the close of the war. All of these positions he filled with credit to himself and satisfaction to his constiutents and friends. We knew him well and love him. Stricken down in the prime of life, he leaves behind him good name, which will long be held dear to those who knew and loved him best. "Life's duty done, as sinks the clay, Light from its load the spirit flies, While heaven and earth combine to say, How bless the righteous when he dies."
