J.D.WADE DIED MONDAY Funeral Rites Held Wednesday "Mrs. Mary Jones Wade, one of Quitman's most beloved and revered women died Monday at her home on North Court Street following an illness of several weeks.She was taken ill about a month ago and members of her family were called to her bedside but last week her condition showed marked improvement. The end came quietly about 11:30 Monday morning. Mrs. Wade was born in Brooks County March 8, 1869, a daughter of the late Col. and Mrs. James Y. Jones. Her family was prominent and important in the developement of this section and it was her grandfather who built the beautiful home, Greenwood, now owned by the Whitney Estate in Thomas County. She inherited this love of beauty which was exemplified in her life, in her home, her garden and her every-day contacts. She was a devoted mother to a family of fine ten daughters and showered a special affection on her 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. To them she leaves a rich heritage of a gentle, beautiful life. Quiet and unassuming in manner she was endowed with a gracious manner and friendly nature which endeared her to all who knew her. She was a thoughtful neighbor and a loyal friend and friends throughout this entire section mourn her passing. Mrs. Wade was a member of the Quitman Methodist Church. Mrs Wade was the widow of the late James Dawson Wade, Jr., a prominent lawyer and former clerk of the Brooks Superior Court for many years. Mr. Wade died February 4, 1917. She is survived by nine daughters, Mrs. Mary Hopper having died some years ago.Her surviving daughters are Miss Lily E. Wade of Quitman, Mrs. A.W. Smith of Alpharetta, Mrs. Freddie W. Miller of Quitman, Mrs. Sarah Sweeney of Quitman, Mrs. C.E. Boseman of Quitman, Mrs. George Q. Bishop of Jacksonville, Miss Minnie Wade of Washington, D.C., who is now in Geneva, Switzerland., Miss Edna Wade of Atlanta and Mrs. Rosa Lovett of Quitman. Her grandchildren are Wallace Hopper, jr of Edgewater, Fla., Mrs. J.L. Doolittle, jr. of Atlanta, Mrs. H.A. Scrivner of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Kenrad Chastain, George Bishop, jr., Ann, Mary, Jim and Joan Bishop of Jacksonville. Sgt. George F. Sweeney of Atlanta, Mary Sweeney, Thomas D. Lovett, Dozier S. Lovett and James W. Lovett of Quitman. Funeral Services were held from the home yesterday afternoon and were in keeping with her last wishes, dignity and beauty featuring the simple service with Rev. J.I. Summerford, pastor of the Methodist Church and Rev. Thomas J. White, pastor of the Presbyterian Church conducting. Mrs Evans Plowden sang "The Old Rugged Cross". The floral offerings were beautiful and profuse and the blanket of beautiful polished foliage from her garden was most appropriate and touchingly carried out her instructions. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Maxwell-Eason Company in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Sgt. George Sweeney, James Lovett, Tom Lovett, Dozier Lovett, Jay Doolittle III, and Eddie LeFiles.
