Neal, Jr. History of Corinth Baptist Church, compiled by Earline Geiger. Corinth Baptist Church was organized February 25, 1888 by J.A.J. Smith and W.F.M. Smith and five members. The members were Bessie Strickland, Gordon Smith, Sidney Butler, Mary or Marie Smith and Evelyn Smith. The Clerk was H.J. Shuman. Church Trustees were W.E.B. Priester, C.B. Futch and J.C. Smith. The first conference was held March 25, 1888. It was decided that services be held on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month. At the fourth conference held in August 1888, the Rev. A.G. Thompson was elected to become the first pastor for the Church. In 1891 at the April conference, Rev. W.G. Chester was elected pastor of the Church. S. B. Shuman was elected to serve as Church Clerk. Rev. W.G. Chester served as pastor of the church from 1891 to 1894. In 1895, the Rev. A.G. Thompson was again called to be pastor of Corinth. In November 1896, it was decided that each male member was to raise fifteen cents every three months for the benefit of the Church. Each female member was asked to raise five cents. In 1898 W.F.M. Smith was called as pastor of Corinth Church. On January 14, 1934, the church met after services to organize a Sunday School. Troy Shuman was elected Superintendent. Miss Lucille Shuman was elected Clerk and Treasurer. The Church met in conference the second Sunday in June, 1941 and appointed S.S. Butler to act as Moderator and Troy Shuman as Clerk C.A. Priester moved that a committee be appointed to straighten out the church roll. It was to be decided what to do with the money the church brings in when it is sold due to the fact that the land is being taken into the Camp Stewart Reservation. It was decided that the Trustees were to divide the money among the members and also that wire be bought and a new fence be put around the cemetery. They voted to sell the stove to Mary Paine for five dollars. It was moved that the Corinth Baptist Church be closed for now and evermore. 1 Futch, Lawton, Son of Mr & Mrs C.B.
