Jones was born around 1787 in North Carolina. According to a document written by Bessie Jones Lewis (on file in the Lumpkin County Library), his father was Daniel Eastwood Jones, a native of Wales. He married an Irish girl, and upon their honeymoon they moved to North Carolina. Daniel Eastwood Jones came to Bulloch and Tattnall counties, Georgia, as a young man. He married Susanah Miller on 3 October 1811 in Tattnall County, and they had all their children there. Susanah was born in Screven County, Georgia, in 1793, a daughter of Revolutionary Soldier William Miller (1759-1837) and Amy Barker (1760-1831). One of William Miller's ancestors, James Wood, founded Winchester, Virginia. Daniel E. Jones was a farmer, and owned a great deal of land in the DeLoach Church area of Bulloch County, Georgia, where he's said to have donated church and cemetery land. He was granted 500 acres in Bulloch County on 2 February 1831, and purchased other lands in the area. On 8 January 1836, he sold half his interest in these lands, as recorded in the Bulloch deed book---- "8 Jan 1836---Daniel E. Jones, of Bulloch County, to John (Calvin) DeLoach, for $1600, one half of the following land: one tract of 600 acres granted to Robert Scott, Sept. 23 1795; another of 400 acres granted to Saml. Peacock, May 30, 1794; 294 acres granted to Anson Williams, Dec. 13, 1820; 200 acres granted to Daniel H. O'Neill, Mar 23, 1810; 300 acres granted to James Bryant, Nov 17, 1817; 250 acres granted to Hardy Gordon, Dec 14, 1822; 300 acres granted to William Mikell, Nov 9, 1826; 879 acres granted to John DeLoatch, Nov 24, 1820; 500 acres granted to Daniel E. Jones, Feb 2, 1831; in all 4191 acres in Bulloch County, also 1/2 of a saw mill and grist mill. WIT: Jno. R. Purcell, William DeLoatch, JIC. Rec: Mar 8, 1837." In the 1840s, Daniel and his family, with the exception of daughter Mary (who married John Smith), moved to Lumpkin County in the 1840s. He was listed in the 1854 and 1855 Lumpkin Tax Digests, in Davis's District #935, owning 154 in 1854 and 156 in 1855, and one slave. His son William M. Jones (who married Nancy Hendricks), the only one of Daniel's children to eventually return to Bulloch County, was also listed, with 3 children and 70 acres. Daniel E. Jones died in the 1860s in Lumpkin County, GA, probably living in the Yahoola District, near present day Dahlonega. Susanah Miller Jones lived some 20 years beyond her husband, dying after 1880. Both are reportedly buried in Cane Creek Church Cemetery, where there are many stones for use as grave markers. CHILDREN OF DANIEL AND SUSANAH JONES--- 1. Mary Jones married John Smith 2. James M.
