W. W. Bird passed the Lee place while the Lee boys were ginning cotton. They were not on good terms, and when H. C. Lee called on him to "hold up" a moment, Bird thought he was going to shoot. Bird did not stop, but called to his son, Scott who was some distance off, to bring his gun. The Lees then attacked him, and Bird stabbed H. C. Lee twice in the back. Russ Lee then started to run, when Scott Bird shot him down. The wounded are in a critical condition. It is thought Russ will die. The Lees had the Birds arrested. There was a preliminary trial, and the Birds were bound over to the superior court. Sheriff Williams took them to Statesboro jail. If the Lees get better, it is thought the Birds will give bond.
