' Funeral services were held Friday, July 10, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Baptist Church of Beaufort with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Milner was born in Bulloch County, GA on December 18, 1911. He is the son of the late Quintous and Mae Belle Milner. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Beaufort for more than 50 years. , He entered the U. S. Marine Corps in 1928 and retired in 1958 after 30 years. He served in China on the Yangtze River from 1932-1934, was a drill instructor on Parris Island from 1936-1940, was the First Sergeant of "D" Co. with the First Marine Division throughout the Guadalcanal campaign. He was promoted to Warrant Officer in January 1943. He became a platoon leader "E" Co., 17th Marines during Cape Gloucester operations. He returned to Parris Island, First Recruit Training Battalion. He went back overseas August 1945 to join 5th Marines in China until June 1946. He returned to Parris Island as a Battalion Officer of the Second Recruit Training Battalion. He served two more tours of duty as the Supply Officer at Camp Lejeune, NC. and Supply Depot, Albany, GA, where he retired in 1958. He returned to Beaufort where he was a credit manager for Beaufort Loan Co. and then the Western Auto Store.' Surviving are one son, R. Wayne Milner of Beaufort, S.C.; two daughters, Patricia Long of Jacksonville, N.C. and Faith Soluri of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Armond Milner of Albany and Leon Milner of Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Laura Tomberlin of Ocilla and Ruth Abercrombie of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
