Hodges-Turner Funeral Home. Gary Thigpen,44, died Thursday at Bulloch Memorial Hospital from injuries recieved in a hunting accident.The Emanuel County native lived in Bulloch County most of his life and was employed with International Knife and Saw Company.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had recieved the Purple Heart in the Vietnam War.Survivors include his wife, Willette B. Thigpen, Statesboro; a son, Adam Thigpen, Statesboro; a daughter, Tammy Coleman, Statesboro; his mother, Lois Fernandes, Statesboro: three brothers, Lamar Thigpen, Register, and Craig and Steve Thigpen, both of Brooklet: and a sister, Sue Baker, Brooklet. The funeral, with full military honors, will be Sunday at 3pm in the chapel of Hodges-Turner funeral home. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens. Additional Comments: Gary was hunting in a tree stand which collapsed, his gun discharging and shooting him in the leg during the fall. He was hunting with his son Adam and a friend and died before they could get him out of the woods.
