COMPANY E, 32nd REGIMENT WASHINGTON COUNTY "WASHINGTON RIFLES" COMPANY NICKNAME: WASHINGTON RIFLES PRIOR SERVICE: Most of the soldiers in this company were originally in Company E, 1st Regiment Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's), Co. C, 5th Regiment Georgia State Troops, or the 57th Georgia Georgia Regiment. JONES, elected Captain on 18 Mar 1861, of Company E, 1st Regiment Ga. Infantry (Ramsey's), and mustered out at Augusta, Georgia on 18 Mar 1862. He was then elected Captain of Company E, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry on 7 May 1862, and resigned 11 Jul 1862. Seaborn was the father of 1st Lieutenant Weaver Harrison Jones of Company E. Captain P. R. TALLAFERRO 1st Lieutenant Weaver Harrison JONES, son of Seaborn A. H. JONES, enlisted as a private in Company E, 1st Regiment Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's), on 18 Mar 1861, and mustered out at Augusta, Georgia, on 18 Mar 1862. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant of Company E, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry, on 7 May 1862, and 1st Lieutenant on 11 Jul 1862. Lieutenant Jones received sick furlough for 30 days on 21 Oct 1862, and was granted a certificate of disability on which to found an application for leave of absence, on 10 Dec 1863. He died October 4, 1864 at Charleston, South Carolina, of Yellow fever. He is buried at Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, South Carolina. He left a widow, Sarah Louise Florence, and a son, Weaver Augustus JONES. [FAM REC -MIL REC HENDERSON] 1st Lieutenant William H. RENFROE enlisted and was appointed 3rd Corporal of Company E, 1st Regiment Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's), on 18 Mar 1861. He was mustered out at Augusta, Georgia on 18 Mar 1862, and reenlisted and was appointed 1st Sergeant of Company E, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry on 7 May 1862. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 2 Apr 1864, and then 1st Lieutenant. Lieutenant Renfroe surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, on 26 Apr 1865. [MIL REC HENDERSON III P. 703] 2nd Lieutenant James C. SNELL - See Company G. [MIL REC HENDERSON III P. 703] Jr. 2nd Lieutenant William C. MATHEWS enlisted 7 May 1862, and elected Jr. 2nd Lieutenant. He declined. [MIL REC HENDERSON III P. 703] Jr. 2nd Lieutenant William L. JENKINS enlisted as a private in Company C, 5th Regiment Georgia State Troops on 16 Oct 1861, and he was mustered out in Apr 1862. He reenlisted as a private in Company E, 32nd Regiment , Georgia Infantry on 7 May 1862. He was elected Jr. Jr. 2nd Lieutenant on 22 Jul 1862. Lieutenant Jenkins was reported by Colonel Harrison as wounded in the shoulder at Battle of Olustee, Florida, on February 20, 1864. He surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, on 26 Apr 1865. Appears also on rolls of Company F, but no record of transfer found. [MIL REC HENDERSON III P. 704 - OR] 2nd Sergeant William Jasper JORDAN enlisted as a private in Company E, 1st Regiment Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's), on 18 Mar 1861, and mustered out at Augusta, Georgia , on 18 Mar 1862. He reenlisted and was appointed 2nd Sergeant of Company E, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry on 7 May 1862. He is listed sick in Savannah, Georgia hospital on 31 Aug 1862. William J. Jordan is listed as a twenty-five year old "Confectioner" in the 1860 Washington County census. W. POOL enlisted and was appointed Corporal on 6 May 1862. A Thomas W. Pool is listed in the 1860 Burke County Census as a "Dentist". RIDDLE enlisted as a private in Company E, 1st Regiment Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's), on 10 Jun 1861, and mustered out at Augusta, Georgia, on 18 Mar 1862. He enlisted and was appointed 2nd Corporal of Company E, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry, on 7 May1862. He enlisted and was appointed 2nd Sergeant of Company B, 7th Battalion Georgia State Guards Cavalry, on 4 Aug 1863. [MIL REC HENDERSON III P 704] PRIVATES Fred J. ALDAY enlisted as a private in Company C, 5th Regiment Georgia State Troops on 16 Oct 1861, and was mustered out in Apr 1862. He reenlisted as a private in Company E, 32nd Regiment, Georgia Infantry on 7 May 1862. Company roll for Nov 1862, shows he was "cook in camp hospital." He also appears on roll of Company F, but no record of transfer found. He is listed as Fred J. Allday on some records. [MIL REC HENDERSON III P. 703] Charles ANGEL enlisted on 7 May 1862, and was captured at River's Bridge, South Carolina, on 3 Feb 1865. " Private Angel was received at Headquarters Provost Marshal General, Defenses North of Potomac on 5 Apr 1865, where he took the oath. He was then furnished transportation to Savannah, Georgia" [MIL REC HENDERSON III P. 703] James M. ARCHER enlisted on 22 Jul 1862. He died in Hancock County, Georgia, on 9 Nov 1926. He enlisted on 7 May 1862. His left leg was broken and permanently disabled at Fort Sumter, South Carolina, on 5 Jul 1864. He died in 1899 at Watkinsville, Georgia.
