COMPANY K COMPANY K, 32nd REGIMENT BURKE COUNTY, GEORGIA COMPANY NICKNAME: "ALEXANDER GRAYS" PRIOR SERVICE: Some members of this company were originally in Company B, 5th Regiment Georgia State Troops or Company E, 2d Regiment, 1st Brigade, Georgia State Troops . COMPANY OFFICERS & STAFF Captain Franklin G. GODBEE, M.D., son of James R. "Cripple Jim" Godbee and Sarah Bell Godbee, was born in Burk County, Georgia, in 1831. He married prior to the Civil War to Rosalind Dickson of Burke County. He enlisted in Company B of the Fifth Regiment of Georgia State Troops and was elected Lieutenant on October 22, 1861. He was in command of the Regiment on October 29th. He mustered out and re­enlisted in April of 1862 when this unit became part of Company K of the 32nd Regiment of Georgia Infantry, known as the "Alexander Grays". He was elected to the rank of Captain on May 10, 1862. He resigned on September 26, 1863 due to "inability to fill the position." Dr. Godbee died in 1870 at the age of 39. [FAM - COLSON] John F. MINTON - 4th Corporal - He was wounded at Fort Wagner, S. C. Aug 18, 1863. PRIVATES ALLDAY, Charles - He was Wounded, date and place not given. BAILEY, Archibald BAILEY, Daniel BAILEY, David - He was wounded at The Battle of Olustee, Florida. February 20, 1864. BARFIELD, John C. - He was captured in Burke County, Georgia November 26,1864. BARGERON, John BARTON, William W. BELL, Amos W. BELL, Isaiah A. BELL, Lemuel BELL, Thomas W. BONNELL, James Henry - He was wounded at River's Bridge, S. C. February 1865. BOYT, Benjamin - He died in General Hospital at Savannah, Georgia October 6, 1862. BRINSON, B. F. CARPENTER, Jefferson T. CARROLL, John T. - he was captured at Macon, Georgia April 20-21, 1865. CARTER, George C. CARTER, Martin T., Sr. CARTER, M. J. COUGHLIN (or Coughlin), John COGLAND (or Coughlin) , William M. - He transferred to Co. C, 5th Regiment Georgia Cavalry January 20, 1863. DRAWDY, Daniel EVANS, John FARROW, Jesse FOREHAND, David B. sketch GLISSON, Roan - He died in Georgia Hospital at Savannah, Georgia November 10, 1862. GODBEE, James C. GREEN, Albert HAM, Green B. HARRELL, H. M. HEATH, Isaac J. HERRINGTON, William Mills, Sr. - "Bill" Herrington, son of Nancy Mills and Martin Marion Herrington, was born on June 5, 1834, and died on October 5, 1898. He enlisted as a private in Company B, 5th Regiment Georgia State Troops on October 22, 1861. Bill was mustered out in April 1862, and he enlisted, as a private, in Company K on May 10,1862. No later record. He married Mary Ann Elizabeth Hurst. Both Bill and Mary Ann are buried at Sardis Cemetery in Sardis, Burke County, Georgia. [FAM SCOTTIE - MIL REC HENDERSON] HEWETT, E. G. HILL, Pleasant - He was captured at Pocotaligo, S. C. December 16, 1864. HILL, William HINTON, Wesley HURST, W. H. - He was wounded at The Battle of Olustee, Florida. February 20, 1864. JENKINS, Samuel LADSON, William Francis LANE, B. F. LASSITER, Andrew J. LEWIS, A. D. LEWIS, Jacob L. LEWIS, N. LEWIS, Ransom - Ransom Lewis, son of Lt. Thomas Lewis, Jr. (RS) and Sarah Ransome, was born near Alexander, Georgia, in 1807. His father and Grandfather, Colonel Thomas Lewis, Sr. served in the Revolution and settled in Burke County after the war on headright grants. Ransom married Sarah Ann Barron of Burke County. Ransom Lewis is listed in the 1860 Census of Burke County as a "Planter" living in Bell's District with real estate valued at $6,700, and personal property valued as $41,980. Ransom enlisted as a private in Company B, 5th Regiment Georgia State Troops on October 22,1861. He was mustered out in April 1862, and enlisted as a private in Company K on May 10, 1862. He surrendered with his unit at Greensboro, North Carolina on April 26, 1865. Ransom Lewis was 58 years old at the time of the surrender. Ransom died in 1883 and is buried in Old Church Methodist Cemetery near what was his home adjoining his property. His wife, Sarah Ann, died in 1886 and is buried next to her husband.
