The ancient papers are tattered and torn from long usage, but the names are still distinct. It was made company “D” the middle company of the 21 Georgia Regiment, where it was stationed as the flag company and carried the Confederate banner four long years amidst rain and shine, battle and carnage to Appomattox C. Went to Brunswick, Ga., May 10th, 1861 and left Brunswick Ga., on Wednesday afternoon 25th of July, on the steamer Chatham for Savannah, which place we left on the 27th of the same month for Richmond, Va., and arrived in Richmond the 29th July, and left for Acqui [Aquia] creek by railroad, on Thursday, the 15th of August; there took up the line of march from that point to Manassas on the 23rd of august, and arrived at our present camping ground the 15th of August 1861 W.
