The clouds gathered quickly and in a short while the rain poured down in torrents. Accompanying the rain was a vicious wind storm, which went over the place in fury, blowing down trees, fences and the Baptist church, which had just been framed. The timbers were well nigh ruined and the building was wrecked. The estimated loss is several thousand dollars. Twenty-three trees were blown down in Colonel Jones's front yard, some of them being a foot and a half in diameter. The gin-house of Mrs. Rebecca Saxon, in Sodom district, was struck by lightning and burned, together with several bales of cotton. The house had recently been completed and the loss is a heavy one. A good deal of cotton throughout the county was injured by the wind and rain.
