Vernon Road, Jackson, GA 30233 Cemetery is located under oak trees in the southern part of the county on property owned by Dauset Trails. This cemetery is overgrown with weeds and is snake infested. The Butts County Genealogical Society encountered a nest of baby copperheads and left before they found the parents. Many markers have been knocked over and there are about 10-12 unmarked graves with broken markers & appear to have no inscription. One marker is overturned inscribed side down. It is believed that this cemetery has suffered from vandelism. The will of Mary Ann Reeves, probated 4 Feb. 1924 in Butts County states "Item 3rd I also wish my executor (George Etheredge) to reserve twenty-five ($25.00) dollars, and hold that amount in his possession, to hire someone to clean off the graveyard, once a year as long as that amount of money will last for that purpose." George Etheredge, the grandfather of George Weaver, a descendant, cleaned the cemetery once a year as long as his health permitted. Go west on GA Hwy 36, .4 mile to Brownlee Road and turn left. Proceed south on Brownlee Road, 2.3 miles to Lake Clark Road and turn left. Go east on Lake Clark Road, .7 miles to a logging road on right. The road can be identified by a galvanized metal gate and posted by Dauset Trails. You will pass 2 or more, red colored metal gates, before you get to the galvanized gate. You must walk in from Lake Clark Road about .2 miles. The cemetery is located on the left, about 30' off the road and can be identified by a granite fence post which were common to small family cemeteries. This cemetery is on the grounds of Dauset Trails. They will gladly grant permission to enter through the locked gate.
