Dear Father and Mother I now have the pleasure of writing to you again. We got here yesterday evening awhile before night after walking 82 miles from Stanton up and down the mountains. We all stood the trip finely. Some of the boys are complaining but none of them past going except Jim Eason, he was taken sick last Wednesday evening. We left him and Swan on the road and have not heard from them since. We aint expect to remain here but a few days before we leave for the big opening about 27 miles from here where we expect to meet the enemy, but think that we can fan them out immediately. This is a rough country, but nice crops of corn and wheat, all the way back to Georgia. We stayed at Lynchburg about a week, and when we leave there we aint know where we will be stationed at longer than a day or 2 at a time. We have fine times in camps, cooking and washing, it is wash day now, the batter sticks are going in a hurry. I am well pleased, and as fat as you ever saw a little chap. We aint know bout where we will raise a row with them yankees, if we do, we expect to give them next to fits. Write to me at Staunton, Va. Care of Capt. McMichael, 11th Reg GV. J. D. Beauchamp
