Petition To Governor Joseph E. Brown

Georgia*
Butts County        To his excellency Joseph E.*
                               Brown governor of said*
                               State*
                                                The petition of David*
Maddox respectfully represents unto your* 
excellency that by reason of the enactment*
of the late law reorganizing the Militia*
of said state assented to December 1863*
he is subject to military duty and has* 
been duly enrolled into the Militia of said*
State----And your petitioner would further*
represent unto your excellency, that he*
has a wife and eight children living*
on his premises and members of his family*
dependant on his own labor for main-*
tenance and support--And your petitioner*
would further represent that there is no*
other male adult on his premises, and your*
petitioner would further represent that in*
addition to the care and attention to his*
own family, he has the care of his mother*
and sisters and four sisters in law, And*
that their families who live within a circle*
of a 1 mile and a half from petitioners'*
home, have no person to look to their*
interest and superintent their business*
And your petitioner would further*
represent that the above persons are*
all widows - with the exception of a*
sister in law, whose husband is in the*
Confederate States army - And your*
petitioner would further reprensent that*
