October 18, 1899 To The Citizens of Jackson: In announcing for Mayor of this city, which is the highest honor in the gift of the citizens of Jackson, is but the out busting of a pent up ambition, which has only been awaiting an opportune time to announce for this place of trust and honor. I am exceedingly ambitious, with no “political axe” to grind, nor the candidate of any “political ring or clique,” so it is to my interest to give the citizens of Jackson the best city government in my power. It has been demonstrated in other neighboring towns that young men make the best mayors, for their term of office is usually brilliant, for all their efforts are centered in the town’s interest and welfare. If elected, I promise to give Jackson a good city government on as economical plan as possible, and preserve good order throughout the town. Realizing the danger that now threatens the property of the citizens, I propose organizing a good fire company, with a good chief, and utilizing the present hook and ladder apparatus thus giving the town as good a system as possible without waterworks. Also provide a way of giving fire alarms. At present Jackson is at the mercy of a fire, and this department will receive prompt attention. If the citizens say by their vote on November 6th, that they want a system of public schools and waterworks, their wishes will be carried out. I am in for any enterprise that will enhance the value of property of the citizens and be instrumental in bringing other enterprises, capitalists and citizens to the town and secure advantage, which Jackson can offer if these improvements are obtained. Both street and sanitary system will receive attention, also the lighting of the residences and business streets of the town. I have, though the medium of the daily press, placed the town’s enterprise and resources before the reading public of the State, and thus caused them to cast a watchful eye upon Jackson, the best town in Georgia, known everywhere for its enterprising and thrifty citizenry. Yours to serve, Charles O. Beauchamp – October 10,1899 Jackson Argus – Butts County Week of October 13, 1899 Additional Comments: NOTE: Charles Beauchamp was elected as Mayor.
