O’Bear was in Jackson Tuesday evening and mustered in Company A, Second Georgia regiment, 43 strong. General O’Bear suggested that the company change its name, for the sake of easy identification and clearness of militia records of the state, include the name of the city. By unanimous vote the name was changed from Butts County Volunteers to Jackson Rifles. After an interesting talk by Gen. O’Bear, and a pleasant interchange of thoughts and advice among the men and officers, the company adjourned to meet next Monday night, when the non-commissioned officers will be decided upon. The boys are very enthusiastic, and it is rumored that a well-to-do citizen will erect an armory for them at an early day.
