Charles Thaxton, Yelverton Thaxton, Calvary F. Knight, and myself of this coun- ty, and Ezekiel Brown and my brother of Greene county, were out driving for deer, when a very angry cloud began to approach. My brother and myself, hastened to my house. The other four made for the near- est house (Mr. Sheerling’s) and on ap- proaching the yard a flash of lightning struck Mr. Charles Thaxton and killed him and his horse, instantaneously. Knight Brown and Y. Thaxton, were all struck to the ground, all being on their feet near C. Thaxton. They all survive but are very much affected.
