T. Byars, a farmer living two and a half miles from town shot Frank Weldon, a young white man last Tuesday afternoon and inflicted a wound from which he died soon after. Weldon worked for Byars in the early part of the year and on account of some differences left him and moved to High Falls. He came to Jackson Tuesday and sold some birds, after which he is said to have tanked up freely on blind tiger booze and started home. Passing Byars house in a buggy with Alonzo Washington, he tried to get his pistol from under the buggy seat and precipitate a difficulty but prevented from so doing. After going some distance further he secured his pistol, jumped out of the buggy and ran back to Byers home. Coming upon Byars he shot at him twice, the last shot piercing a slight flesh wound in the leg below the knee. Drawing his pistol Byars fired once at Weldon, the shot taking effect in the head with the above result. The preliminary hearing will be had tomorrow before Judge Harmon.
