Jackson Argus – Butts County June 10, 1898
Last Sunday evening two negro women by the names of Carson and Barlow engaged 
in a fight down on Mr. Willie Newton’s place near the southern corporate limits 
of Jackson and as a consequence the Barlow woman is now lying dangerously 
wounded from a pistol n the hands of her antagonist, who is languishing in the 
county jail.

The difficulty was the result of an old feud that has existed between the two 
women for the past several months.  Some time ago they engaged in a quarrel and 
the Barlow woman left several gashes on the Carson negro as a souvenir of the 
engagement.  They have never been on friendly terms since and when on Sunday 
evening they met and renewed the difficulty it was with the avowed intention of 
a fight to the finish.  However, this time the Carson woman was loaded for her 
assailant, and from the result of the encounter it seems that she lost no time 
in disabling her opponent and departing the field with wreathes of victory upon 
her brow.
