Argus – Week of February 23, 1892 On Wednesday night at about 3 o’clock the High Falls Lodge and School building was burned. The house was a two story one, the first floor being used for a school room and in the second story was located High Falls Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. Mr. C. S. Maddox is Principal of he school and is assisted by Miss Elia (?) Pound of Jackson while Miss Minnie Hightower has charge of the music department. We learn that there was no fire in the house after twelve o’clock the day before the burning and it is therefore believed to be the work of an incendiary. The house was wrapped in flames when the fire was discovered and nothing at all was saved. It is indeed a hardship of the community, as they had recently repaired the house by recovering, ceiling etc. The school was one of the finest outside the town, in Middle Georgia.
