Middle Ga. Argus – Week of March 3, 1893
Clark Barber, Red Brown, Ben King and Loyd McKibben

On Tuesday Capt. J. M. Holfield, chief of the Jackson mounted police force, 
discovered a number of young bloods of the colored persuasion, in a room on 
Gabe Bell’s place on Second street, playing cards, which is a crime against 
Georgia laws.  On seeing the blue coat and brass buttons they flew like a covey 
of birds and did not alight till near the trestle a mile north of town.  Chief 
Holifield quickly reported the case at police headquarters and several other 
mounted officers were detailed and made hot pursuit.  They followed the fast 
flying blackbirds and succeeded in capturing four.   Their names were Clark 
Barber, Red Brown, Ben King and Loyd McKibben, who have been assigned rooms on 
the first floor of the Butts county hotel, of which sheriff J. M. Crawford is 
proprietor.    They will be interviewed by Judge Boynton and Sol. Gen. M. W. 
Beck abaout the 15 inst.
