Argus – Week of August 3, 1893 A reunion at the old homestead of Mr. J. J. Barnes, on 22nd inst.,was an enjoyable occasion, having a son in Florida, whom the mother had not seen in ten years, another in Texas, others here and there. We all gathered together at the home of their childhood under the venerable old oaks, where we boys (now son-in-laws of the old gent,) used to hitch our horses, were spread all the good eatables that heart could wish. After feasting on these to the content of our appetites, the children, about forty in number, began their plays in various ways, which they seemed to enjoy very much, while we older ones at and talked as of yore. Occasions like these are rare. After spending the day so pleasantly the time came for us to go to our respective homes, parting probably never all to meet again in another reunion, the sad part came in, and we are reminded of the swiftness of time. But may our lives be so spent that at last we will, as an unbroken family, reunite in that beautiful “City of Light” prepared for all the good of earth, where parting is not known. Thos. E.
