Argus – Week of August 17, 1893 Ed Harvey, whose head is so red that if a hair was broken he would bleed to death, was this morning arraigned for drinking and fighting. Ed pleaded his own case and his declaration, though not formerly filed, as a corker if it didn’t go. Ed says that he had been out of town and had been dead straight for some time till he heard the terrible yellow fever outbreak, and he made up his mind that he was a certain victim and it prayed upon his mind till it drove him to hard drink, and being drunk and feeling that within a few short hours at least he must succumb to yellow jack, he didn’t care what he did. But since he had got to take a brighter view of the outlook, he submitted these sympathy inspiring facts and asked for mercy. But as this was not mercy day, and Judge Freeman thought Ed had been unduly alarmed at the yellow fever situation, he gave him $15 and costs.
