Argus – Week of December 14, 1893 Sheriff Beauchamp and Crawford picked up a son of Ham by the nefarious name of Bad Burt Benton, called by some B. B. B. He seems to be a triple thief. He stole a wagon from Tom Weaver, of Henry County, who is charged with theft and now under bond for the crime B. B. B. did, and harness from another negro and a bale of cotton from Tarpley, about a month since. He did the same in Newton County. Stealing a mule from one man, a wagon from another and a bale of cotton from the third. Besides he stole $175 from a Mr. Aiken, of Newton County. He has served one four year’s sentence in the chain gang and will go again but if Sheriff L. O. Wright had not heard from a crowd of citizens by the wayside Friday morning, he would not have bothered folks here any more. Sheriff Wright left here with him, but when he was near Worthville, he heard what was ahead and came back to Jackson, waited for the train and carried the rascal by Atlanta.
