Middle Ga. Argus – Week of January 11, 1894
Judge J. W. Harkness, who is now an octogenarian and one to spare, from the 
pure goodness of his soul on Wednesday morning called on his two children and 
eight grand children, and gave them $500 each, saying that he wanted his money 
to do good while he was living.  This is the kind of philanthropy our country 
needs
