Jackson Argus – Week of January 4, 1895
On Saturday night last an unsuccessful attempt at suicide was made by Mr. Jas. 
H. Strange of this city.  It seems that in some manner Mr. Strange had gotton
(?) hold of a razor, and as he ascended the steps of Mr. Hanes’ residence early 
Saturday evening he made three severe gashes on his throat in vain endeavors to 
end his existence.  A physician was called and promptly attended the wounded 
man, who at this writing is resting easy.

Mr. Strange is a young man of about 23 years of age, belonging to one of the 
best families of Jackson, and no cause can be assigned for his attempting this 
rash act.
