Jackson News– Week of February 15, 1882
Our city fathers, with the assistance of Mr. James Maddox, surveyed the town 
last week and located the corners of the square, the streets and the width.  
The four main streets incircleing(?) the square, were made 66 feet wide, all 
others 40 ft. wide.   This is a move in the right direction, looking to a 
uniform arrangement of things before two many buildings are erected
