The first time he was frightened off by Mrs. Land, who fired off a pistol through the window. The second attempt was made trying to raise the dinning room window, the noise of which awoke Mrs. Land, who gave the alarm by screaming which frightened the thief and brought several of our citizens upon the scene. Mr. Land, who only a few days ago had moved his family from Bullard, Ga., was absent at the time, on business. We admire Mrs. Land’s pluck. When our marshal tapped on the front door, she made him give the countersigh(?), and when the servant opened the door, she was standing at a respectable distance in the hall with a revolver in position, known in military tactics, as “make ready.” The marshal being a stranger to her, taking off his hat, appeared as polite as a dancing master. We advise burglars not to go there to steal.
