We find the public roads throughout the county have received the usual attention, except those roads crossed or appropriated by the Macon & Brunswick railroad, and the recommend that the Ordinary confer with the R. R. authorities and have them put in good order immediately and so changed as to require as few crossings as possible. We find the Court House and Jail needing slight repairs. We recommend that the North-west room of the court house be hereafter used for a Grand Jury room. We have examined and approved the dockets of Maddox, Douglass, Barnet, Lynch and Bankston, Justices of the Peace, but find the dockets of Bledsoe, Neal, Thurston, Flynt and Brown incorrectly kept. The dockets of Bell, Smith, and Evans, have not been presented. On account of limited time at the disposal of Grand Juries, they are unable to properly examine books and papers belonging to the several county officers, therefore, we recommend that His Honor, Judge J. T. Willis, appoint Mr. Wm. M. Mallet, Mr. R. V. Smith and M. V. McKibben, and Mr. John W. Gibson as alternate, as a committee to thoroughly investigate the condition of the records and other papers in the various county offices and report the result to the Grand Jury for the September term 1882, said committee to receive $2.00 per day each for such. We recommend that the Ordinary furnish each Justice of the peace and Notaries Public with suitable dockets. We recommend that the Ordinary have a bridge built across Wolf creek near Eddleman’s mill, provided that if any changes in the road should be made the same shall be done without any cost to the county; said bridge to cost no more than $200.00, built upon rock abutments. We recommend that the Ordinary have a bridge built across Sandy Creek at or near a large rock near the Simmons’s place in the town of McIntosh; said bridge to be about 100 feet long, resting upon rock abutments, provided the town council of McIntosh will secure the right of way for roads approaching said bridge and grade the same, and fill in the abutments free of cost to the county, and also connect the Dublin road so that only one bridge will be required, and that the Ordinary shall not let out said contract until the above terms are compiled with. One-third of the cost of said bridge to be paid in the fall of 1882 and balance in 1883. We recommend the Ordinary to have a substantial fence built around the courthouse square, and also take out an insurance policy on the court house to the amount of $5000.00. We recommend that the Ordinary levy a tax uu0on the State tax. Twenty-five per cent for general fund. Ninety per cent for bridge fund. Eight per cent for Jail fund. Twenty-five per cent for Pauper fund. Ten per cent for C. House fund Upon inquire we find that the terms of three members of the School Board has expired; we have chosen R. V. Smith, Obediah Hendrick and Wm. M. Mallet to fill the vacancies. In taking leave of his Honor, Judge Willis and Solicitor General Womack, we tender them our sincere thanks. We recommend that these presentments be published in the Jackson News and Butts county Argus Samuel McKibben, Foreman Georgia, Butts County Office of clerk Superior Court – March term 1882 I, Larkin D.
