N. Harmon the bookkeeper, had a difficulty on Monday about the amount due Heard. Harmon became tired of the dumb mans motions and ordered him away from the works. Heard obeyed, and we learn returned directly with a dollar pistol, and commenced shooting at Harmon, who was sitting a stride of a mule without giving him any warning. Harmon struck spurs to the balam(?) and left but the critter was rather slow for him, and to make time he dismounted and made about three strides down a 40 foot fill, landing at the base on his head where he met Tom Splan, and related to him what had happened. Splan goes up to see about the matter, when Heard opened fire on him. Splan, it is said drew his navy at the sight of which Heard was frightened and retreated in the direction of town. Harmon revived and came over to town in the afternoon, almost out of breath, with pistol in hand, to swear out a warrant for Heard, who was seen making lively steps in the direction of home.
