Jackson Argus – Week of August 9, 1895
Sank Barber (col.) shot and killed his wife Wednesday of this week in the lower
part of the county.   Barber and his wife had quarreled for two or three months
and on several occasions he threatened to shoot her, which he did last Wednesday.

The murdered had eluded the officers so far.  He is a big black burly Negro of
about twenty-five years of age with his left hand off just above the wrist.
