Jackson Argus – Week of April 2, 1896
Sheriff Beauchamp went out to Mr. William Hoard’s on Sunday after noon to arrest
a negro who had struck Mr. Hoard in the face with a rock.  The difficulty arose
over the fact that Mr. Hoard’s cow had trespassed on the negro’s land and in
going after his cow Mr. Hoard met the Negro and the difficulty arose, ending as
stated above.  The Negro was allowed to give bond and was not arrested by the
Sheriff.

The wound received by Mr. Hoard is not a dangerous one but came near resulting
seriously.
