Y. A. Wright gave a most delightful and enjoyable fish fry and barbecue to a few of his friends. The place selected for this outing was at Bermuda Bottoms on the Ocmulgee at Dempsey’s Ferry. Two or three days previous to the gathering, Col. Wright had procured about 40 pounds of fish and had them kept in traps and fed until the day of the feast, when they were brought forth and prepared in a manner in which Col. Wright cannot be excelled. We wil not say that Col. Wright is a veteran fish fryer for that would be imposing upon his age, but we will say that he is hard to down on a genuine fish stew or fry and on that day proved his championship, as a connoisseur in the fish frying art. Hamp Daughtry, Fennell and Bill Wilant can testify to the glories of a cat fish stew, for it was proved conclusively that they gained about 5 pounds each during that one day. Nor would we forget that tender and deliciously prepared barbecued lamb, and other things furnished, for the delight and satisfaction of the crowd by Col. Sam Mays and his good lady. The day was one of joy and forgetfulness of every day business, when the mind was relaxed and cares left home. Even the little children present caught the inspiration of non chalance(?) and not one of the older ones enjoyed the day more dearly than they in splashing and paddling in the water. The occasion left the impresse upon the crowd, all of which expressed a desire that the day with its pleasures be soon repeated. The gathering consisted of the following people: Col. and Mrs Y. A. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mays, Judge and Mrs. Marcus W. Beck, Dr. and Mrs. O. H. Cantrell, C. G. Fennell and wife, Hamp Daughtry and wife, Chas. Redmana nd wife, A. A. Rose and wife, Dr. R. G. Bryans, I. J. slaughter, Levi Spencer and Bill Winant.
