Argus – Week of January 1, 1894 Our Sheriff Beauchamp and Crawford accompanied by Bailiff J. E. Price, went on last Friday night and found, that in a house with but one door, but more than one exit, a man, Henry Maddox from Jasper County. Our sheriff had entered and left Mr. Price outside when suddenly the top of the chimney fell of the roof and rolled to the ground with a negro in it, who fell running. Mr. Price succeeded in putting one ball through the skin and the negro succeeded in carrying the lead through a gate that left his would be captors.
