A jury was secured without any unusual delay and Gus was put on trial for the killing of General Connally. The defense was conducted by Dr. Mays assisted by Col. Wright, and the state was represented by Solicitor Bloodwort and Morgan Mills. The evidence was all in early in the afternoon and argument was begun by the attorneys, all four of the lawyers making speeches. The case was then submitted to the jury after an able charge by Judge Reagan. After remaining g out all night a verdict of guilty was rendered with a recommendation to mercy.
