The Weekly Constitution, Atlanta, Ga. June 28, 1892
Jackson, Ga., June 25. -- On Tuesday Chick Berry walked up to where some women 
were washing clothes, near the railroad crossing on the road leading to 
Worthville, and almost without a word pulled out a pistol and fired at a young 
woman named Barber.  The ball passed through her right breast, lodging on the 
breast bone, where it was taken out by Dr. Lee.  Berry at first made his 
escape, but was captured by Sheriff Beauchamp on Wednesday night and lodged in 
jail.  Berry claims that he did not intend to hit her.  The parties are colored.
