Gray’s body, with the back broken, was found Sunday morning by the side of the Southern railway track. It was thought at first that he had been killed by a train, but the coroners inquest developed the fact that he had been killed by negroes, named Law, father and son. Gray is supposed to have been under the influence of liquor at the time, and while gambling a dispute arose and he was slain. Witnesses at the inquest testified that they saw Gray and the Negroes gambling. When the body was found they went to the spot where they had seen the men, and there were bloodstains and other evidences of a terrible struggle.
