The postmaster here was notified last week that this change in he office here had been made, and that his salary had been fixed at $1,100 per annum. Following is the copy of the order from the postoffice department at Washington: Washington, D.C., Sept.20,1897 Postmaster, Jackson, Ga. Sir: Your office having met the requirements of the act approved mrch 3,1885, the same is hereby advanced to third class, effective October 1, 1897, and your salary is fixed at $1,100 from the same date. Very respectfully, E. C. Fowler – Acting 1st Assist. P.M. Gen’l Jackson postoffice now ranks along with other city postoffices, and the postmaster will not be affected by a boycott of his office, should one occur. It is interesting as showing the advance in business at Jackson. Jackson grows on forever!
