Before his death a petition was presented to the ordinary setting forth the fact that Mr. Brooks was a proper subject for the county farm, and when he died Butts county paid his burial expenses. It is announced now that the deceased has been awarded the sum of $754.00 by the government, the same being an old war claim. A son-in-law of Brooks in Fayette county has applied for letters of administration before the ordinary of Fayette on Brooks estate, while Mrs. Brooks, the widow of the deceased, has made application for letters of administration before Judge Carmichael in this county. The law is that the administration shall be obtained in the county where the deceased resided at the time of his death. This county is, therefore, the county from which letters will issue and Mrs. Brooks will be the administratrix and get that money in spite of all the son-in-law can do. The Argus congratulates Mrs. Brooks!
