Carmichael, the workmen found in the roof of the second story (where it had been concealed when the Yankees came through) an old stencil plate made by Judge McCord and used by the first company of Confederate soldiers enlisted in Jackson to mark their tents, haversacks, etc. It reads “Jeff Davis Riflemen,” which was the company gotten up by Felix Price, and of which he afterwards became captain. Mr. Carmichael presented the plate to Capt. J. Wm. McCord, who values the relic highly; both as a war relic and as a memento of his father’s devotion to the cause of the confederacy. The plate had been in the second story eaves of the home for over 37 years, when discovered the other day.
