S. – Burglary On last Friday night, two men who have the misfortune to have “Col.” Affixed to their names, unlocked the smoke house door of Mr. J. S. McDanaiel, and carried off twelve pieces of meat, which they considered enough to keep their throats well greased during the summer, but unfortunately, they will never have the chance to avail themselves of that opportunity. Mr. Mc suspicion two Negroes living on the premises of the widow Giles, Jesse and Ben Barren. Mr. McDaniel obtained a search warrant, and accompanied by the sheriff, proceeded to the house of Jesse and Ben’s, where they searched it vigorously, but found nothing of the meat, and after looking around the house a while, they noticed tracks through the field leading towards a pine thicket, and fortunately, this was a successful clue to the finding of the missing meat. They had only been in the thicket a short time when they found a pit about two feet deep, with the meat therein. This was a right sharp burglary, but it wasn’t quite “thick” enough. One of the Negroes was captured, but made his escape after receiving the contents of two barrels of a pistol, which was loaded with squirrel shot. Both Negroes are now at large, and Mr. McDaniel has offered a twenty-dollar reward for their deliverance to the Sheriff, or ten dollars for each. Butts county Argus – Butts County Ga.
