Jackson Argus – Week Of December 31, 1896 December 31, 1896
Sheriff Beauchamp captured a negro by the name of Mitchell Shepherd in Monroe
county last Tuesday who was indicted for a misdemeanor in this county.   The
Negro went to South Georgia and dodged about until Christmas when he returned to
Monroe to spend the holidays.  Our sheriff nabbed him before he had a chance to
claim “Christmas gifts” on his folks.  Sheriff Beauchamp is a slick one.
