A. Dugger, the leading blacksmith in the carriage factory of J. r. Carmichael & Co. was arrested on the charge of bigamy. It seems that Dugger was married in 1868 to a lady in Tenn. And subsequently deserted her and came to Georgia where he married another woman in Green County. His last wife, however died about two months ago at her old home near Greensboro. His former wife heard of his whereabouts and marriage and wrote Sheriff Beauchamp to make the arrest and she would forward the necessary papers. When arrested, Dugger stoutly denied ever having been married but to the lady who lived with him here as his wife and who recently died as above stated. On Wednesday he was carried before J. F. Carmichael, Ordinary, on a writ of habeas corpus and released. He protested his innocence and said he knew the woman but that she was a lewd character and only wanted to put him into trouble. The next morning Dugger left and has not been heard of since. On Sunday his first wife came to Jackson with all the necessary papers to prove him guilty as charged, but as he had left for parts unknown nothing could be done and she returned to Tennessee. The following certificate of his marriage to the woman who had him arrested was handed to us by sheriff Beauchamp on which the arrest was based. Office of County Court Clerk, Taylorsville, Johnson county Tennessee, J. A. Eggers clerk. April 19,1881 I, Wm. P.
