BANKSTON AN OLD TIME FACE Sitting on the mantel in the clerk’s office, in the courthouse, is a photograph of Mr. Wm. R. Bankston, who for many years filled the office clerk of this county. The face is familiar to all the older citizens of the county, as from the early days of the county’s organization this gentleman was almost invariable called upon to draw up all the deeds, bonds and other legal papers for a great many of our citizens. He was noted as being one of the best penmen in Georgia, which the records of the office will show. Mr. Bankston is yet living with his son James, three miles from town and being old and unable to do manual labor, spends his time in fishing, hunting, etc. Many are the interesting incidents that he can tell of antebellum days and the trying times of the war. Long may he yet live in the land of his birth and among his friends. Middle Ga. Argus – Week of February 5,1889 This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.4 Kb
