D. Moore, section foreman, while walking up the railroad a few hundred yards north of Yellow Water Bridge, discovered a ghastly sight near the road. Approaching nearer he found the dead body of Emanuel Davidson. He at once sent the news to town, and coroner T. F. Clark summoned a jury, consisting of D. J. Thaxton foreman, R. W. Mays, M. M. T. mayo, J. M. Holifield, J. A. Burford and T. H. Greer, who at once proceeded to where the dead man was lying to investigate the scene of his death. They found the old man lying in the mud about thirty feed from the railroad track, and near him was lying his hat, walking cane and two quart flasks – one empty and the other bout two-thirds full of whiskey. There were no marks of violence up his person. Upon investigation it was learned that Mr. Davidson had been drinking heavily for several weeks, and on Friday had purchased a half gallon fresh supply, and started to his home, going his usual short route, via the railroad bridge. Becoming heavily intoxicated he fell and died from exposure. The verdict of the jury was rendered as follows: We, the jury, upon due investigation find that Emanuel Davidson came to his death from over indulgence in drinking ardent spirits, and exposure to the weather. This another strong lecture in favor of temperance. Middle Ga Argus – Week of March 6, 1890 This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
